The U.S. mortgage map in 2023 is different from 2019.
Florida climbed to the number one spot for all originated loans, just eclipsing Texas.
In 2019, California was the #1 state by total number of originated loans, regardless of their purpose, type, or collateral. And in 2023, this spot was taken by Florida with 463,638 originated loans.
The difference between all originated loans in Florida vs. Texas is very small - a few hundred loans.
And while these numbers may change somewhat as we get more late filers and updates, this fact is an indication of market shifts that lenders and other stakeholders should pay attention to.
